General Guidelines for Medication-Assisted Treatment

General Guidelines for Medication-Assisted Treatment

You may be going to a suboxone clinic in Toledo, Ohio to get treatment for opioid dependence. Various treatment options are available for you in this situation.

One of these options includes Medication-assisted treatment (MAT). The guidelines for MAT are as follows:

  • Controlled Substances
Doctors may prescribe clients with drugs that are classified as controlled substances under the Controlled Substances Act. These include suboxone and buprenorphine, among others. The Drug Enforcement Administration or DEA works with the Division of Pharmacologic Therapies or DPT in regulating the controlled substances in MAT.
  • SUPPORT Act

With buprenorphine, doctors are not the only ones who can prescribe such drugs for those with opioid dependence. Through the SUPPORT Act (Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act), other practitioners have the privilege of prescribing the said drug to clients within an office-based setting.

These practitioners typically include Certified Nurse Midwives, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Additionally, these professionals also provide primary care services to clients for better treatment results.

  • Counseling
Receiving counseling as part of recovery outreach in Ohio is also a requirement for MAT patients. In addition to the prescribed drugs, clients may also undergo various forms of behavioral therapy, depending on their circumstances.

At Hill Clinic, we incorporate both counseling and medications into our MAT program. We understand that each patient is unique. That is why we tailor our programs to the specific situations of our clients.
